Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I shop on the way to the farm?

If you’re flying in, there’s a Woolworths at the airport (open daily from 6am–9pm).
In Stellenbosch town, the best grocery options are Boord Spar or Checkers.
The BP garage down the road has basic essentials and firewood, but it’s not ideal for full grocery shopping.

Where is the closest laundromat?

Mr Jeff – 20 Krige Road, Stellenbosch Central.

Can we use the manor house pool?

Yes, but only from October to April, between 8am and 5pm.
Please note we also use the pool and ask that you follow the posted guidelines.
Please bring your own beach towels for the pool — bath towels are provided.

Where can we go for a walk?

There are a few lovely walking options. You’ll find a map in the guest book on the coffee table — or feel free to ask me to WhatsApp it to you.
Please respect our privacy and avoid areas marked “private” near the house.

Our pets

We have 3 cats and 2 friendly dogs.
Please don’t let the dogs into the annex and don’t feed them.
Some children enjoy climbing on dogs, but Olaf (our small dog) doesn’t like it and may react.
Pepsi, our black labrador, has a knee problem — gentle attention only, please.

Can we uber from here?

Sure, but it’s always a good idea to book ahead. Just type in Kastanjeberg farm as the location.

What is nice to do on the farm?

Take a stroll next door to De Waal for a relaxed wine tasting or to pick up a bottle or two. If you’re up for a slightly longer walk—or a quick drive—head to Jordan Wine Estate for breakfast or lunch with breathtaking views. On the way, stop at Canettevallei on your left – a hidden gem for more wine tasting and a bit of boutique shopping.

Fancy trying your hand at bass fishing? The dam is just a few steps from the annex – just remember to bring your own gear. If you’re in the mood for a longer hike, feel free to ask us for the gate key. We have Eland roaming the farm, and with a bit of luck, you might spot one! Birdwatchers will also love exploring the area – there’s plenty to see.

And if you’re a mountain biker, don’t miss the Bottelary Hills MTB route. Day permits are available – just ask!

Or, simply settle in on the stoep and soak up the peace and quiet.

Enjoy!
